Scott and I decided to start this blog to catalog our experiences with selective IUGR. We’ve been through a roller coaster of emotions, learned so much, that we want to share our information.
On Jan 27, 2011 at 3:46 and 3:47, our boys were born!
Sebastien Richard and Samuel Bradford.
Sebastien weighed 2lb 1oz, and Samuel weighed 12oz. Yes, 12oz! They’re both growing like crazy, both experiencing very different journeys through the NICU.
On June 28, 2011, Samuel lost his fight with prematurity. His heart simply gave out, and our hearts are still recovering. This blog chronicles the journey both boys had and continues to follow Sebastien as he grows.

I’ve been following your blog on and off since mid Feb. My sister brought it to my attention (Marybeth Gilbert – she works for ICF – I think you may too). My wife and I also had twin boys who are nearly the identical gestation age as your boys and born nearly at the same time (almost uncanny how close they are imho). Ours were born on Feb 1, 2011 at 27W5D. They are still in the NICU and probably will be for some time. Just want to let you know have some friends out here who are going through a similar experience and wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Hi Bob, Yes, I do work for ICF. Congrats on your boys!!! How are they doing on their NICU journey? Have they experienced any major issues?
Hi, they are doing well although we still get terribly worried and one day it seems they are stable and going smoothly and the next we get in there and it seems like things have gone backwards… Their biggest issues right now are periodic bradycardia/apnea in Garik and apnea due to reflux in Cameron – up until last week Cameron was desatting a lot, however after a lot of tense days they upped his flow and he seems to be doing better. On the whole I’d say that the biggest issues they had were anemia requiring transfusions a few weeks back and PDA surgery for Cameron. They have been trying to get the guys on nipple but that seems like it will take quite a while to go smoothly – they have been sucking a bit on the pacifier but the moment you put some drops in there they start seizing up and holding their breath. I suppose it just takes time.
Your blog was posted in a catholic group I am apart of. My current baby, almost 34 weeks has IUGR. I hope to make it to 37 weeks. I just realized we must live very close to each other. I am in McLean, just outside Tysons Corner.
Hi Allison! How big is your baby right now? Let me know if you’re ever at Fairfax hospital!
He is measuring just under 3 1/2 lbs at 33 weeks. I plan on delivering at Virginia Hospital Center.

Hi There. I also have twins that are about the same gestational age (Born April 12th at 32 weeks 2 days). We aren’t dealing with IUGR but both had NEC and required surgeries. Molly has been home for 2 weeks but Josh is still in the NICU for a few more weeks. I wanted to let you know I am reading your blog and thinking about Sam.

Hello, You may not remember me, but I was a student at TECH around the same time you were there. We have a mutual friend named Jenny/Jennifer B. who is the sweetest person on earth. My son was born on January 19, and I have kept up with your blog since Jenny told me about it at the beginning of February. I just wanted you guys to know that even though I have not communicated before now, all of you have been in our prayers these past months. I am so happy to see Sebastian continue thrive and grown and we continue to pray for your family through this time of growth and healing.
